What Is Newbie Night?
Newbie Night is The LoftNC’s monthly open Q&A event designed specifically for people who are curious about BDSM and kink but don’t know where to start. Held on the first Thursday of every month at The LoftNC in Gastonia, NC, it’s one of the most attended events we host — and for good reason. There is no stupid question here. Ever.
If you’ve been lurking on FetLife, watching videos, reading articles, and still feeling like you need someone to just explain things in plain language — this is that night. Lady Leigh and the LoftNC community have been welcoming first-timers to this space for years, and Newbie Night exists because everyone deserves a safe, judgment-free entry point into the community.
What to Expect
Newbie Night follows a structured Q&A format. You come, you listen, you ask questions — and if you’re not ready to ask out loud yet, that’s fine too. There is no open play at Newbie Night. This is a conversation-only event, which means you can attend in street clothes, skip the gear, and just be a person who’s curious. That’s enough.
Topics that come up regularly include:
- How to navigate a dungeon space safely and respectfully
- Consent frameworks and how The LoftNC uses them
- Common kink dynamics — D/s, bondage, impact play, and more — explained without judgment
- How to find a partner or community as a newcomer
- What the difference is between a social event and a play party
- How to complete waivers and what they mean
Every month is a little different depending on who shows up and what the group wants to talk about. Lady Leigh guides the conversation but the community drives it.
Who Should Come
Newbie Night is for anyone who is new to the kink community or returning after a long break. It’s also genuinely useful for people who have some experience but never had the chance to ask the questions they were too embarrassed to ask elsewhere. Partners exploring kink together for the first time are welcome. Solo attendees are welcome. Anyone 21 and over who has completed the required waivers is welcome.
The Charlotte metro area has a larger kink-curious community than most people realize — you’re not alone in wondering about any of this. Newbie Night is where those questions get answered.
Where and When
Newbie Night is held on the first Thursday of every month at The LoftNC, located in Gastonia, NC and serving the greater Charlotte area including Belmont, Mount Holly, Cramerton, and surrounding communities. Doors open at 6:30 PM.
Attendance requires completing The LoftNC’s waivers in advance. See the links above if you haven’t done that yet — it only takes a few minutes and is required for all events.
