As we all know, we are getting antsy and want to socialize, meet new people and play. We have been staying up with the news as I'm sure many of you are as well. We've asked for comments from members previously to mixed reviews on opening.
Our initial plans were to try to reopen this fall with outdoor events and allow limited play. The new regulations for events require extensive cleaning (including recommended cleaning of restroom after each use), no shared food utensils, no self-serve drinks or food, no shared toys/blankets/stuffies, wiping down counters and high touch areas every half hour or more, temperature checks, new waivers, mask be worn at all times, and more.
These new requirements are costly and would require staff and funds that we just don't have available. Yes, we know, many would volunteer to help and that is wonderful and we thank you always. Right now we are trying to stay afloat as are many event and social spaces around the country. If you are able to help, we greatly appreciate you - How you can help.
In addition, if even one attendee becomes ill and is traced back to an event, we will be subjected to shut-down and deep clean as well as be required to turn over a guest list. While some in our community may not care and are "out", that is not the norm and this would be a devastating turn of events for many.
These are always hard decisions but as we watch the COVID numbers and spikes that occur after even casual small gatherings, reopening does not seem to be the best course of action for the benefit of the community at this time. We are not willing to jeopardize the safety and welfare of our members and guests.
We will continue our virtual demos/discussions on Sunday afternoons and plan our new calendar for 2021 to hopefully include both virtual and in-person education as well as socials.
We appreciate your love and support and we will return in 2021.
